The Average Salary Rate for a Senior Flash Developer



Adobe Flash is a development platform used to build websites and develop software for computers. The original purpose was to add graphics and animation to websites, but it has since become a competitor or alternative to HTML for developing websites and software. Senior Flash developers fall under the broader career category of "software developer," according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Salaries for this career vary by experience and employer, among other factors.


Median and Mean Salaries
According to the BLS, the median salary for software developers in 2010 was $94,180, while the median hourly rate was $45.28. The mean salary was $97,960, while the mean hourly rate was $47.10.

Salary Range
The BLS also provides salary range information for Flash developers and software developers in general. In 2010, the lowest paid 10 percent earned $61,040 or less, or $29.35 an hour or less. The middle 50 percent earned between $75,720 and $117,670, or between $36.41 an hour and $56.57 an hour. The highest paid 10 percent earned $143,330 or more, or $68.91 an hour or more. Senior Flash and software developers likely earn a salary over $100,000 a year based on their advanced experienced, though the exact salary depends on the employer.

Salary by Industry
The industry a Flash developer works in affects how much he earns. For example, according to the BLS, software developers in the machinery, equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers industry were the highest paid in 2010, with a mean annual salary of $114,880 and a mean hourly wage of $55.23. The computer systems design and related services industry had the highest concentration of employment for software developers, with a mean annual salary of $96,830 and a mean hourly rate of $46.55. Developers in the software publishers industry earned a mean annual wage of $100,840 and a mean hourly rate of $48.48.

Job Outlook
According to the BLS, the job outlook for senior Flash developers and software developers in general is positive. The BLS predicts a 21 percent increase in job opportunities and salaries for computer software engineers and computer programmers in general between 2008 and 2018. Computer software engineers will see the largest growth out of that category, with a 32 percent job growth rate.
